This pair seems rather stupid, when in reality gymnasts, Ido Portal and many other successful Gymnastics Strength Training programs have far more mobility exercises than what Coach Sommer offers in Foundations. I mean lets face it, in the world of Gymnastics they spend A LOT of time doing 100s of mobility exercises to condition themselves.
Now we are not gymnasts, so we dont need to go that far. But I know for a fact Ido Portal has his students working on a lot more things, to get the FOUNDATION moves. AND he gets them there a lot quicker. If you dont want to do the Ido Portal method, because of the intense commitment, thats fine. Im in the same boat. But at the same time, I dont want to do something that is so watered down like GB FOUNDATIONS, that I end up with injuries due to the lack of mobility work to prepare the body for such exercises. Also I should add that he recently changed the PE1 (very first progression step) of Side Lever on FOUNDATIONS.
PE1 is moved somewhere much further and a whole heap of other exercises are now in place. I use to feel like he was just approaching this entire thing logically, without anything tested. It definitely shows in his original book BUILDING THE GYMNASTIC BODY.
I am convinced that this is the case. He may be great with actual gymnasts, but that doesnt mean he can transfer that to the average human who doesnt have the great conditioning gymnasts have. There is no need to make this a religion and let those programs compete against each other. Leave that habit to the gurus and their religious followers and be smart enough to extract and combine those parts of their stuff that are fitting you and your personal goals. I believe the mobility exercise paired with the strength exercise is made to keep the program simple and not confusing. Also, you have the option of consulting the forums if you feel like you need more mobility work. In the stretch series there is also a lot of mobility work depending on how you view it. You probably confuse mobility exercises needed for general health and strength training with mobility exercises needed for dynamic strength and movement.
