The DSDT is a component of the motherboard firmware, and is used by the OS to 'understand' the board's hardware. Kind of a weak explanation, but I'm no expert. A DSDT is considered specific to the motherboard and the version of the firmware it's running. So, a DSDT can vary a little on the same motherboard from one BIOS release to another. If borrowing a patched DSDT from someone else, should you be so lucky as to find one, it must come from the same motherboard (essential) and firmware revision to have the best chance of working with your system. It's for this reason that it's advised that users patch their own DSDT when one of those is needed to fix some functionality issue.

Seems that patched DSDTs are more commonly needed for laptops than desktops (recent ones, anyway). The problem with DSDTs and patching them is that it's an arcane subject with little in the way of explanation for non-experts. Your best bet is to haunt laptop sub-forums on the busy sites (like tonymac and insanelymac) in hopes that someone will direct you on what you'd need to do. I actually ended up fixing it by throwing a whole shitload of kext files and config modificatikns onto the thumbdrive from the insanelymac thread i mentioned in one of my other comments here.
